“A scientific man ought to have no wishes, no affections, - a mere heart of stone.” While this may be true for the scientific process, we all know that in his short visit to the Galapagos Islands, Darwin developed a deep affinity and love for this most unique place, one that guided his thoughts and shaped his research for years to come. Those who have experienced the Enchanted Islands feel a similar sense of deep affection when recalling their encounters with the wildlife, many of which are graced with an intimacy rare in our time. In honor of Darwin's Birthday and Valentine's Day, we have asked our guests to share their intimate moments and experiences with the wildlife of Galapagos. The results were fantastic! Whether it be cuddling Marine Iguanas or a preening Albatross couple, each photograph captured a unique moment of "love"; one for both the creatures and photographers. While the images speak for themselves, it is clear that behind the moment of capture also exists a intimate relationship with the Galapagos. A moment we can all relate to and which has enriched our lives immensely, as it did for Darwin over 200 years ago. Thank you all for sharing your photographs and memories! Enjoy and congratulations to the winners! —Weston Walker View winners and all entries, up to full-screen size, in our Valentine's Day & Darwin Day Photo Contest Gallery |
